Slow Fashion in Time Lapse, Adult Enrichment Activities, The Art of Being a Hack, Excessive Thirst and Shame
not me doing a photo dump on Substack
My trains of thought often feel like more of a relay sack race when I write, and I end up with 30 drafts or subject lines that bottleneck for months. Today, for Father's Day, I was going to finally publish the one listing all the reasons I love men so freaking much (except the man from Task Rabbit, who was so unskilled in repairing wood that he ruined my Eny Lee Parker cabinet and then gaslit me). But I can't find it. I think I deleted it in a fit of shame and self-doubt. I'll have to start over. Here, I could either pass the baton to the draft on "shame" or circle back to the subject of "expertise," but now my brain is stuck in a messy three-legged race, and this post has a very good chance of being benched in my drafts folder with the others if I don't take a breather.
So, I shall pass the baton to style stuff that is more immediate and light. I haven't posted to Instagram for a while. I have always wondered what great dressers who don't compulsively post their outfits on Instagram every day are doing with their lives. I became one of those people for a couple of weeks while I was super busy, mostly with making content for all the emerging independent designers who took me up on my spring offering, but also with work, creative projects, events, gatherings, family, friends, and just life in general.
If you aren't fiendishly scrolling Instagram, good for you, but you may have missed this time-laspe style-out I did with a t-shirt from Andrea G Handmade. Styling this top one way turned into 10+ ways because it literally looks good with everything and I couldn’t stop. Plus, I love to "under promise, over deliver" when I partner with someone.
Here's one way of many. (Check out the Reel to see the rest.)

One day, I went to a trio of events, making outfit changes and tweaks along the way. First was a lunch hosted by Valerie Quant of LoQ and Bed Threads. I based my ensemble around my LoQ sandals. Then, before I stopped by a little shopping party at Le Boudoir in Echo Park, I changed into something centered around the sheer cardigan I was bra shopping for. That night, I was going to an Autre party for the launch of their latest issue. The invitation said “cocktail attire.” People don’t tend to follow dress codes in LA, so I decided to go more adventurous than risk feeling over or underdressed. I threw on the black bra I bought earlier, a satin bomber jacket, fancy earrings and a heel.

Let's take a moment to talk about these new sandals from LoQ, which are kind of like if my beloved kitten heel thongs from The Row and the LoQ Gael sandals that I've nearly worn ragged, hooked up. With my addition of the nylon sock, it's like they invited the Jil Sander nylon sandal boot over for a threesome. (Quick update on that fiasco: Ssense finally refunded me after waiting A MONTH. Since I can squint and style the vibe for a fraction of the price, I'm glad they never made it out of the box.)
Sometimes, I was so in the moment that I forgot to take a photo, but mostly, I was wearing long-sleeve tops from KYE, which are so soft and flattering and were perfect for June Gloom. Now, they'll be perfect for cool LA nights, lounging, and whatever forever. See, no photo. But based on how often I wear them, pics will surely be coming soon.
I also visited a Citizens of Humanity preview and pounced on these perfect, perfect, perfect jeans. This style is called Miro. Look at that curved leg and slight taper! I tried on sizes 24, 25, 26, and 27. If you plan to get a pair, I'd say COH tends to run a little big, so size down by two sizes if you want them higher on the waist so they fit more like mom jeans. If you want them slung low and roomy, you can order your usual size or even a size down. If you want them so low-slung, you need a belt, and with a little puddle at the hem, size up. That's what I did for the lighter wash pair I preordered for fall. Or you can order a size range and return what doesn't fit.

They paired perfectly with OZMA's silk noil (!!!) baby tee.

That is what I wore on set one day, and the next day, I wore it to sit in a salon chair for 5.5 hours and get blonded (I went for it!) by the best around, Kimberly Pierce-Lynn, aka KP Color Studio. Totally worth the drive from LA to Long Beach. Talk about expertise! She's a virtuoso of color, especially blonde, hand painting each strand and sculpting the tones of each section to give it natural-looking depth. As a huge bonus, the conversation was an absolute treasure.

In a previous post, I said I highly recommend being a hack at something (but also advised going deep and hard into one interest or skill). And last fall, I was begging brands to switch how they do public relations events. In private, I’ve been telling friends about the next career shift I want to make. The through line of all of these topics that are mosh pitting in my brain is a feeling of shame. And after the paywall, I’ll expand on each.
