Heretical Pairings for Transitioning into Spring
plus An outfit award for the girl in the FiveFingers & the good, the bad & the ugly of my 3 week Substack absence
I feel bad that I haven’t posted regularly for a few weeks. Here’s the good, the bad, and the ugly of what’s been dominating my time:
The good:
I’ve been focused on some paid freelance job$.
I visited the foothills of my hometown to spend 3 nights in a remote cabin catching up with my high school ride or die who I hadn’t heard hide nor hair of for 15+ years. She’s the most skilled raconteur I know and we covered A LOT of ground, spilled tea by the urnful, laughed till we cried and ate to our heart’s content. I highly recommend doing this with your old bestie.
I took a bunch of classes including a 5 week writing class taught by Karley Sciortino and Colette Pervette, PhD, an Ikebana class hosted by Chan Luu, and an erotic dream interpretation workshop at the Philosophical Research Society. (More on this in a future post.)
I have been making rounds and rounds of trips to my storage unit and the post office as I rehome most of the pieces listed on Depop.
And I shot lots and lots of outfit content and updated my LOOKS page so you can easily shop just about everything you see me wearing in my REELS. Huge thanks to all who came through on my thread asking for a favor in the chat. I am happy to hear it was user friendly and yes I hope to will eventually have a page organized by top/bottoms/shoes/etc. I’m a one-woman operation over here but it will happen.
I rented a creative space / studio / office, pictured above.
The bad:
Man down! Eddie slipped on some rocks in Hawaii - he is much better now - and even though my man is one spry mutha and bounced right back up, he was in a lot of pain and pretty scraped up and advised to take it easy and not to lift anything for a bit and I took over some of his usual household duties and we made lots of trips to doctors to get second and third and fourth opinions. Then I got a bad 10 day cold.
The ugly:
Oh other than saying I have been feeling extra ADHD, being extra hard on myself and feeling extra hopeless, and I spent a day in bed bawling my eyes out when the shrooms went sideways, I won’t get into it. I call upon my soft resilience. Remember my Pierrot complex? Moving forward. Expanding. Seeing what comes.
More on ALL of this later.
Now, onto STYLE related content. Jeez, I love being my own boss but sometimes I sorta need one. I need prompts. I have a content calendar but I actually never look at it. Too rigid. Always telling me what to do. I suppose it would be telling me to write about Easter outfits. Um nah. It would definitely be telling me to write about OUTFITS FOR TRANSITIONING TO SPRING. In that case, I got you.
Spring is manic. It keeps you on your toes. This is the best time for those of us who like weird heretical pairings like crochet with trench coats, socks with sandals, long shorts with high boots, feminine skirts with sporty windbreakers, and prepared-for-anything layers like puffers over a bare midriff. But that’s all the writing I want to do on the subject. If I’m completely honest, I’d rather just show you. So here’s some inspo:
You can shop it all HERE:
If you’re hellbent on “keeping your adorableness intact” during April showers, you may also want to take inspiration from this look I styled for Sea NY.
And finally an outfit award for the girl in the FiveFingers. She looked like a cross between Bianca Censori and the girl who played Eleven on Stranger Things. She has a last name that indicates she may be a nepo baby but all I can confirm is that her fit was hotter than fire and I’m pretty sure she knew it. And I’m not saying we should all run out and cop her look*, just that I appreciate the gall and the swagger and depth of personal style it took to wear it. She wore not a stitch of makeup, had slicked back, wet-look hair which was perfectly slightly messy, wore a high neck , low back, high-cut black bodysuit (or maybe it was a swimsuit?) which gave extreme whale tail, orange tab vintage Levi’s (let’s just say they were Re/done since I spotted her at the Re/Done x Pamela Anderson launch) with the back waistband folded over, black mesh toe shoes, and a furry yellow Jil Sander cannolo bag (there’s one left on SSENSE at 60% off. If you miss that one it’s also on Farfetch but at full price). That’s it. No jewelry. No extras. Looking fresh out of the pool or sauna. I know there are a lot of Reels and Tik Toks showing “styled” vs “unstyled” looks. I think “unstyled” is STYLED when done like this. It’s considered. It’s a choice. It cooks with just a few simple but quality ingredients. It’s no BS. It’s not trying too hard. Looking “effortless” in a good way takes a well-honed skill set or the wisdom to stay out of the way of your innate gifts if you were born with good personal style and/or natural beauty. And she really knew how to carry herself.
I didn’t get an ID on the bodysuit but a google search for high neck, low back, highcut bodysuit tells me it coulda been this one from Los Angeles Apparel $38 , but was very similar to the racer bodysuit Gil Rodriguez just dropped, $98 or this Khaite bodysuit, you don’t wanna know the price $$$$ or possibly this - sorry to say it but - really nicely cut bodysuit Skims , $60.
*Not gonna lie, I just ordered a white pair of 5 fingers for Hawaii. Especially after Eddie’s doomed encounter with those slimy rocks (even though he was wearing Vibram sole Keens).
Okay, I posted and I’m patting myself on the back.
I’m backlogged on so many drafts I want to wrap up and send out. So much I want to tell you. Why don’t you give mama a little bit of encouragement with some likes, shares, nice comments, pledges or paid subscriptions. Thank you my dears.
i love heresy season 🏴☠️
The windbreaker with the collar! 😯
It would be fun to see you post itineraries for some of these looks, the more absurd the better 😉
